Fence repair in San Diego is something most homeowners deal with at some point — whether it’s a few rotted boards that finally gave out, a post that’s been leaning for months, or storm damage from an unexpected Santa Ana wind event. The good news is that many fence problems can be repaired without a full replacement, saving you significant money while restoring your property’s security and appearance. Canyon Fence has been repairing and rebuilding fences across San Diego and Los Angeles counties since 1993. We work with every material — wood, chain link, vinyl, and iron — and our owner John Jessee personally evaluates each repair job. He’ll tell you straight whether a repair makes sense or if it’s time for a replacement, and you’ll get a free, no-obligation estimate either way.
OUR SERVICES
Fence Repairs We Handle
Wood Fence Repair
Our most common service call. We replace cracked boards, rotted rails, and damaged posts without tearing down the entire fence. We match replacement wood to your existing fence.
Chain Link Repair
Torn or sagging mesh, bent top rails, leaning posts, and damaged gates. We re-stretch loose fabric, splice in new sections, and replace hardware for residential and commercial fences.
Vinyl Fence Repair
Cracked or broken panels, shifted posts, and gate issues. We source matching replacement panels from the same manufacturers used in the original installation.
Iron Fence Repair
Straightening bent pickets, rewelding broken joints, replacing damaged sections, and addressing rust. We grind, prime, and recoat to restore the corrosion barrier.
Post Reinforcement
Leaning posts are the most common structural problem we see. We excavate, reset in fresh concrete, and brace until the footing cures — for any fence material.
Gate Repair
Sagging gates, broken hinges, damaged latches, and automatic opener troubleshooting. We get your gates closing, latching, and locking properly again.
Local Expertise
Common Causes of Fence Damage in San Diego
San Diego’s climate is mild overall, but specific local conditions cause predictable fence problems that we repair regularly.
Sun & Heat Damage
With over 260 sunny days per year, unprotected wood dries out, cracks, and splits. Boards curl and warp, nails back out, and posts weaken at the top. Targeted repair is usually more cost-effective than waiting for the problem to spread.
Santa Ana Winds
Gusts can exceed 60 mph in exposed areas. Privacy fences catch wind like sails. We see a surge in repair calls after every major wind event — downed sections, snapped posts, and detached panels.
Termite Damage
Widespread in inland San Diego — Escondido, El Cajon, Poway, Lakeside. Termites attack posts from below, often hollowing them out before visible damage appears. We probe suspect posts during every estimate.
Soil Movement
Clay expansion and hillside erosion shift post footings over time, causing sections to lean or separate from rails. Common on sloped properties throughout the county.

Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my fence needs repair or full replacement?
As a general rule, if the damage is limited to a few boards, one or two posts, or a single section, repair is usually the most cost-effective option. If more than 30 to 40 percent of the fence is damaged — or if the posts are structurally compromised throughout — replacement often makes more financial sense. We evaluate every fence honestly during our free estimate and give you a straight recommendation, not a sales pitch.
Can you match new materials to my existing fence?
In most cases, yes. For wood fences, we source the same species and board profile. New wood will look slightly different in color until it weathers to match — staining the repaired section can accelerate the blending. For vinyl, we order panels from the same manufacturer when possible. Chain link is matched by gauge and coating type. Iron sections are welded and refinished to match the existing color and profile.
How quickly can you repair my fence after storm damage?
We prioritize storm damage repairs and try to get an estimator out within two to three business days — sooner if the damage creates a safety or security issue. After major Santa Ana events, demand spikes across San Diego County, so calling early helps secure a faster spot on our schedule. Most storm repairs are completed within one to two days of starting work.
My fence posts are leaning — can they be fixed without replacing the whole fence?
Usually, yes. Leaning posts are the most common fence problem we repair. We excavate around the base, straighten the post, and reset it in a new concrete footing. If the post itself is rotted below grade, we replace just the post and reattach the existing rails and panels. The rest of the fence typically stays in place. We inspect all posts during the repair to catch any others that are close to failing.
Do you repair commercial fences and gates?
Yes. We repair commercial chain link, iron perimeter fencing, security gates, barbed wire, and enclosures for businesses across San Diego County. Commercial repairs include mesh patching, top rail straightening, gate hinge and latch replacement, and automatic opener troubleshooting. We understand that a damaged commercial fence is a security liability and schedule commercial repairs as quickly as possible.
